(2012) dir Rick Alverson w/Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim, Gregg Turkington, James Murphy, Liza Kate, Kate Lyn Sheil [90 min, Digital presentation]
THE COMEDY is not a comedy – though it does have moments of squirm-inducing humor. Tim Heidecker (cult TV show Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!) plays Swanson, an aging hipster with a wealthy, dying father who aimlessly wanders Brooklyn looking for some kind of connection with life. The film only hints at what has lead Swanson to this state of suspended adolescence, but it’s clear that he’s desperate for an authentic experience yet is trapped in a life of soul-crushing irony and mock-sincerity.

“Transgressively brilliant!” – Village Voice

“A powerful generational statement.” – Indiewire
