(Some of) The Best of 2013Repertory Series Archive

The World’s End

Special introduction by Boston Society of Film Critics member Ethan Gilsdorf at 9:00!

(2013) dir Edgar Wright w/Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Rosamund Pike, Martin Freeman, Eddie Marsan, Paddy Considine [109 min; DCP]
A misguided wastrel (Pegg), mired in regret and substance abuse, gets his childhood chums back together to complete a quest from their teenage years: the Golden Mile, an epic pub crawl through their hometown. When they arrive, however, they discover that the town has taken a change for the creepy and, while Gary pushes them to complete their mission, the group struggles to uncover the secret behind the weirdness. Edgar Wright’s conclusion to his “Cornetto Trilogy” is typically fun and hilarious but also brings a remarkable amount of pathos to his now-middle-aged heroes.
