Archival 35mm Print!

(1981) dir Derek Burbidge w/The Cramps, Dead Kennedys, Devo, Echo & The Bunnymen, Gang of Four, The Go-Go’s, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Gary Numan, Klaus Nomi, Oingo Boingo, The Police, Wall of Voodoo, XTC [96 min; 35mm]
One of the most expansive concert films ever created, URGH! A MUSIC WAR features unbelievable performances from some of the most important artists of the early 80s. Standouts include the irrepressible Cramps doing “Tear It Up,” a transfixing version of “He’d Send in the Army” by Gang of Four, and the otherworldy Klaus Nomi singing “Total Eclipse.”

“Viewing URGH! will bring viewers to a historical era when punk was artistically dangerous, and it seemed like anything could happen…” Brattle Film Notes contributor Chelsea Spear looks back at URGH! A MUSIC WAR and the early punk scene
