Under the Skin

(2013) dir Jonathan Glazer w/Scarlett Johansson [108 min; DCP]
UNDER THE SKIN features Scarlett Johansson as an alien temptress roaming the streets of Glasgow feeding on unsuspecting victims. Shot partially with hidden cameras and non-professional (often unsuspecting) actors, UNDER THE SKIN is an astonishing, elegiac, intellectual sci-fi film that somehow manages to include all of the elements of a b-movie (nudity, murder, alien abduction) with none of the sensationalism.

“Weird. Brilliant. Stunning.” – Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times

“A brilliant science fiction movie — more of an ‘experience’ than a traditional story, with plenty to say about gender roles, sexism and the power of lust.” – Matt Zoller Seitz, RogerEbert.com

“Very little in ‘Under the Skin’ is clear at all. Its secrets unspool in mysterious, supple ribbons, but that’s part of its allure, and its great beauty.” – Stephanie Zacharek, Village Voice
