WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT

50th Anniversary!

Added Show: Plays in place of MIAMI BLUES at 9:30 PM.

(1965) dir Clive Donner w/Peter O’Toole, Peter Sellers, Woody Allen, Romy Schneider, Capucine, Paula Prentiss, Ursula Andress [108 min; 35mm]
In Woody Allen’s first screenplay, Peter O’Toole stars as a lothario who really does want to be true to his fiancée (Schneider) but finds it impossible when every woman he comes across (including the surely-hard-to-resist Capucine and Ursula Andress) wants to pursue him. In desperation, he turns to a psychoanalyst (Sellars) who has girl problems of his own. The whole cockamamie mess descends into bedroom farce during a trip to a romantic French hideaway.

“What if Woody Allen directed WHAT’S NEW PUSSYCAT? ‘If I could have directed that it would have been a much, much, much funnier picture but made much less money.'” Bridget Foster Reed imagines the possibilities in her piece for Brattle Film Notes
