Exclusive Area Premiere May 29 thru June 4

Michael Fassbender and Kodi Smit-McPhee • SLOW WEST • Area Premiere May 29–June 4(2015) dir John Maclean w/Michael Fassbender, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ben Mendelsohn, Caren Pistorius [84 min]
At the end of the nineteenth century, 16-year-old Jay (Smit-McPhee), a naïve young Scotsman, travels to the American frontier in search of the woman he loves. He is soon joined by Silas (Fassbender), a mysterious loner who saves his life. Silas becomes Jay’s guide and companion but he harbors his own private agenda for travelling with the young man.

SLOW WEST is a neo-Western with a fairy tale patina and an impish sense of humor. Despite its occaisional light touch, the film doesn’t gloss over the brutality of the frontier life. A sensation at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, SLOW WEST is an entertaining and gorgeous film with a unique tone that begs to be seen on the big screen.

“Gorgeously shot, crisply edited, acted with devilish finesse, and blessed with a rawboned musical score that haunts you while you’re watching the movie and taunts you on the way home. It’s all of 84 minutes, but when it’s done, you know you’ve seen something.” – Ty Burr, Boston Globe

“An intriguingly off-center Western… impeccably crafted.” – Variety

“‘Slow West’ often feels like the Coen brothers’ rendition of ‘True Grit,’ if they’d brought Wes Anderson in as a collaborator.” – Tasha Robinson, The Dissolve

“Brilliantly executed! Best defined by its sharp wit, absurdist violence and fairy tale qualities.” – Rodrigo Perez, The Playlist

“Slow West is a treasure and a great showcase for Smit-McPhee.” – Vanity Fair

★★★★☆ “Percolates with the constant threat of violence.” – David Ehrlich, Time Out New York
