Rarely considered a neo-noir, Alex Cox’s gonzo cult gem nonetheless can claim the genre as one of its myriad influences – after all, the ‘glowing whatsit’ in the trunk of the missing Chevy Malibu is a direct lift from Kiss Me Deadly. An aimless punk (Estevez) falls in with a misfit car repossession outfit and finds a mentor in the grizzled and philosophical Bud (Stanton).

“Aspects of Bud’s character were consistent with Stanton’s persona, such as his plainspoken manner and his dry sense of humor.
