(1994) dir John Carpenter w/Sam Neill, Jürgen Prochnow, Julie Carmen [95 min; 35mm]
Unfortunately, there are few films that successfully adapt Lovecraft’s actual tales to the screen, but his particular brand of creepiness has influenced dozens of great films. This particular Lovecraftian film features Sam Neill as John Trent, an insurance investigator whose search for a missing horror author leads him to a New England town that doesn’t appear on any map. To his dismay, Trent finds that the author can bend reality using his writing and intends to bring the Old Ones back.
