THE THIN MAN

We regret that, due to a shipping issue, we will be unable to screen THE KENNEL MURDER CASE on Monday, October 12 as originally scheduled. THE THIN MAN will screen in its place today, with shows at 3:15, 5:15, 7:00 and 9:00. We are looking into the possibility of screening it on Wednesday, once the print arrives—please stay tuned.

(1934) dir W.S. Van Dyke w/William Powell, Myrna Loy, Maureen O’Sullivan, Nat Pendleton [91 min; 35mm]
Everyone’s favorite blithely alcoholic detective, Nick Charles (Powell) was the creation of legendary noir author Dashiell Hammett. Though there is very little overtly noir-ish about THE THIN MAN, the whipsmart dialogue and sheer amount of booze consumed – let alone the involvement of Hammett – make this a clear precursor to the genre.
