Milland stars as George Stroud, the editor of a true crime magazine, who is hired by his imposing boss Earl Janoth (Laugthon) to frame a particular man for the murder of Janoth’s mistress. Unbeknownst to Janoth, Stroud is that man and so he must continue the charade of a manhunt while also searching for the true murderer of the girl.
