Too Late for Tears

(1949) dir Byron Haskin w/Lizabeth Scott, Don DeFore, Dan Duryea, Arthur Kennedy [98 min; Digital]
This recently rediscovered film noir features Lizabeth Scott as a seemingly normal woman overtaken with avarice when she and her husband find themselves in possession of a suitcase full of cash. Despite the presence of a lurking Dan Duryea, she is determined to keep the case away from the cops, her husband, and the crooks who want it – so she turns to murder to get her way.

“Seething middle-class envy underscores every scene in this cleverly plotted number, directed by “War of the Worlds” helmer Byron Haskin.” – Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune
