Double Feature with NO HOME MOVIE

(2016) dir Anne Fontaine w/Lou de Laâge, Agata Buzek, Agata Kulesza [115 min; DCP]
In French, Polish, and Russian with English subtitles.
A French Red Cross doctor (de Laâge) in Warsaw immediately after WWII finds herself caring for a group of nuns in varying states of pregnancy after being assaulted by occupying Soviet forces. Though the violence is predominantly in the past, the nuns live in a state of fear and anxiety held together only by their shaken faith and the iron fist of the mother superior (Kulesza).

“Strikingly acted by all concerned … Impeccably put together by Fontaine without any false steps.” – Kenneth Turan, The Los Angeles Times

“It gives us war as seen by the women it rolls over and it quietly exults as they help each other back to their feet.” – Ty Burr, Boston Globe

“A complex social allegory, delivered in a film of masterful restraint and great compassion.” – Andrew O’Hehir,
