A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT

Art House Theater Day!

Presented by IndieGogo

(2014) dir Ana Lily Amirpour w/Sheila Vand [101 min; DCP]
Strange things are afoot in Bad City. This Iranian ghost town – home to prostitutes, junkies, pimps, and other sordid souls – is a place that reeks of death and hopelessness, where a lonely vampire is stalking the town’s most unsavory inhabitants. But, when boy meets girl, an unusual love story begins to blossom. The first Iranian Vampire Western, Ana Lily Amirpour’s debut feature A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT basks in the sheer pleasure of pulp. A joyful mash-up of genre, archetype and iconography, its prolific influences span spaghetti westerns, graphic novels, horror films, and the Iranian New Wave.

“Gorgeous to behold and up to its jugular vein in quirky/spooky atmosphere.” – Bruce Ingram, Chicago Sun-Times

“A smart, subversive tip of the hat to everything from American and Italian Westerns to horror movies, Jim Jarmusch, love stories, Iranian traditionalism and rock ‘n’ roll. Oh, and there’s a vampire.” – Cary Darling, For Worth Star-Telegram

“The expressionist shadows, floating chador, and wilted patriarchy make the whole movie feel forbidden. There’s something in the nothing.” – Wesley Morris, Grantland
