Free Screening and Discussion!

The Boston Globe’s Meredith Goldstein will join Brattle executive director Ivy Moylan for discussion following the film

(1939) dir George Cukor w/Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell, Mary Boland, Paulette Goddard, Joan Fontaine, Ruth Hussey, Hedda Hopper; Anita Loos, Jane Murfin scr [133 min; 35mm]
Based on Clare Boothe Luce’s play and adapted for the screen by Anita Loos and Jane Murfin, THE WOMEN features an all-female cast that seems to do nothing but get up in each other’s business. At the crux of the film is a competition between stalwart wife Shearer and perfume counter floozy Crawford that culminates in a nightclub ladies’ room showdown.

This event is free and open to the public. Passes are not required, and seating is first-come, first-sat.

Elements of Cinema logoELEMENTS OF CINEMA is a monthly free screening and discussion series presented by the Brattle Film Foundation. This program is supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
