Double Feature with LITTLE ANNIE ROONEY

(1928) dir Victor Sjöström w/Lillian Gish, Lars Hanson, Montagu Love, Dorothy Cumming; Frances Marion scr [79 min; 35mm]
One of Hollywood’s early powerhouse actresses, Lillian Gish rose to stardom in the films of D.W. Griffith but here she personally selected the pioneering Swedish director Victor Sjöström to helm this film about a woman driven to the brink of sanity. When destitute Letty (Gish) travels west from Virginia to live with her rancher cousin and his unfriendly wife, she finds not only unwelcome suitors but also an ever-present howling wind.
