Viola Lawrence started working in movies at age 11 and eventually became the head editor at Columbia Studios, going on to oversee work on such classics as The Lady From Shanghai and In A Lonely Place. In the early 1930s, just after joining Columbia, Lawrence worked on this romantic drama about a homeless couple (Tracy and Young) who fall in love during the Great Depression.
