Brattle Staff Picks for May & June

STAFF PICKWe’re back with another selection of picks from the Brattle staff! Check out what some of our coworkers think are the coolest movies on screen at the Brattle in May & June—details after the jump…

Pressed for time? See the complete list on our schedule page

Kim:

  • THE BIRDS: My favorite Hitchcock movie and I can’t wait to see it on the big screen!
  • DAVID LYNCH: THE ART LIFE: I welcome every opportunity to delve deeper into David Lynch’s mind and explore his transcendent work.
  • What better movie to watch on Mother’s Day than PSYCHO?!
  • LE SAMOURAI: This movie by master Jean-Pierre Melville has influenced so many filmmakers. I’m looking forward to falling under the spell of this cult classic again.
  • THE BLUES BROTHERS: Belushi, Aykroyd, that music… and they’re wearing sunglasses.

Kim Baillargeon is the Brattle’s operations manager.

Alma:

Alma MacBride is a member of our concessions staff.

Dave:

Dave Leamon is is a member of our projection staff.

Sean:

  • LE SAMOURAI/HARD BOILED – One of the great regrets in my life is that I am far too much of a goofball to be a badass. Like, how cool would it have been to be one of those effortlessly tough dudes like Delon in LE SAMOURAI or Chow Yan Fat in HARD BOILED. I have neither the steel-nerves nor sartorial flare to pull off the grizzled tough guy thing and have overcompensated by watching both of these films about a billion times.

  • All About the Chase Repetory Series – This would sound weird in any other context, but y’all are Brattle folks so you get it: Nothing reminds me of being young and in love quite like classic car chase films. When my wife and first started dating there was an elaborate dance to figure out where our taste in film overlapped. We both hated rom-coms, she couldn’t stand the Euro-gore I was into at the time. Eventually we found out that car chases were at the center of the Mandi-Sean Venn diagram. Hours and hours of car chases. The VANISHING POINT/GONE IN 60 SECONDS double feature is like the double helix of my relationship’s DNA.

Sean Maloney is one of the Brattle’s house managers.
