The Late Show: Co-Presented with Wicked Queer!

Friday, September 1 – Monday, September 4

(2016) dir João Pedro Rodrigues w/Paul Hamy [117 min; DCP]
In the latest film from João Pedro Rodrigues (To Die Like a Man), a solitary ornithologist Fernando (Hamy) embarks on a journey to search for an elusive species of stork but is quickly swept away by raging rapids. Rescued by a pair of Chinese pilgrims, Fernando ends up plunging headlong into an eerie and dark forest in this “transfixing spiritual and sexual odyssey” (Los Angeles Times).

“An immersion in pure cinema… erotic and hilariously surreal misadventures.” – Justin Chang, Los Angeles Times

“American gay movies never contemplate gay life as having existential or spiritual meaning but that is Rodrigues’ adventure in this strange, mesmerizing study of the transformation of gay consciousness.” – Armond White, Out Magazine

“The film has a remarkable patience and beauty, taking the time to live in its offbeat, unsettling moments.” – Jeffrey M. Anderson, Combustible Celluloid
