Reviews for ‘Tito and the Birds’

“The movie’s pleasures are primarily visual, whether it’s in the thick swirls of paint used to suggest a fiery lab accident; the design quirks (faces with prominent overbites); or the shadowy, often inky-dark palette.”
– Ben Kenigsberg, New York Times

“The aesthetic conjured by art directors Vitar and Vini Wolf is entirely its own creation, fluidly rotating from shadowed urban claustrophobia to blazing kaleidoscopic hellscapes.”
– Guy Lodge, Variety

This fantastical Brazilian animated film uses a unique mix of digital animation and oil painting to tell the story of Tito, a shy 10-year-old boy living in the near future where a fear virus has taken over the population and is spreading. The virus paralyzes its victims and slowly turns them into lumps unable to do anything but stare out of their huge terrified eyes. Tito quickly discovers that the cure is somehow related to his missing father’s research on bird song. He embarks on a journey to save the world from the epidemic with his courageous friends.
