Special Live Music Event!(Tickets $18, available now at worldmusic.org and the Brattle Theatre box office.)
All My Friends Are Funeral Singers
The critically acclaimed Califone tours this fall with a new show that integrates the first full-length film by lead singer/guitarist Tim Rutili, performing a live soundtrack as the film screens. The film and the new CD, both called All My Friends Are Funeral Singers, were both written at essentially the same time, and incorporate many of the same characters and images. The band will first play a 30 minute set of older material, and segue immediately into the film screening with live musical accompaniment, for an approximately two hour show. This will be a truly special and ambitious event, and unlike anything Califone has done to date.
Califone's music has often been described as cinematic, and the band has been known to contribute live improvised soundtracks to silent films. Many of these performances have been released on previous Califone albums. Tim Rutili's artistic endeavors stretch beyond music and include the creation of surreal short documentaries, music videos and experimental films. The movie was shot in an old, rickety house in Indiana in the spring of 2009 and stars respected cult actress Angela Bettis (Girl, Interrupted; May, Carrie). A stand alone edit of the movie will be submitted to film festivals in 2010.
