Special Event
Boston Bike Film Festival
7:00 PM
(Tickets available at www.bostonbikefilmfest.org. Special Event: No passes or discounts.)
Organizers of the Fifth Annual Boston Bike Film Festival have asked filmmakers with a cycling habit to submit their work to be shown October 23 & 24, 2009, at the historic Brattle Theatre in Cambridge. The event is a fundraiser for local cycling advocacy groups, including MassBike. Films from last year's festival ranged from an exciting chase on bikes with a twist ending, to the ultimate speed machine, to the story of a young woman's coming of age. Types of films shown at the BBFF include animated shorts, digitally enhanced clips, and feature length documentaries. Festival information can be found at www.bostonbikefilmfest.org, which will soon include clips from last year's festival.
The venue for both nights of the 2008 Boston Bike Film Festival will be the Brattle Theater in Harvard Square. Festival is from 7-11 p.m. both nights.
Friday Night: We have a short film about a local icon on a trike called, "Louie," by Brian Moore; a film by Bob Nesson about a local artisan who builds bike trailers (and will be auctioning off one of his creations!); a rap video by Robin Moore; a ride through Manhattan by John Allen; a grassroots cycling story in upstate NY by Kevin Ankeny called "Farm Raised"; a film by Sheryl Lanzel about Bikes Not Bombs; and finally, a group of intrepid cyclists in Alaska called "Fat Tire", by Carl Battreall. This schedule is subject to change, so check back!
Saturday Night: Since our rap video from Robin Moore is so popular (and short), we're showing it again Saturday night, along with "Lanes", by Matthew Hashiguchi; "Inside Ragbrai" a unique filmmaking experience by Barney Leonard; a film about cycling culture in Boston called "Between the Lanes" by Seamus Donahoe, and "B.I.K.E.", an intense film by Jacob Septimus. This schedule is also subject to change!
We're still finalizing the roster so check back for additional film listings, but we have thus far a couple of racing films, some dramatic shorts and a lot of comedies!
