Music for Movies: Bernard Herrmann Centennial
Mondays and Tuesdays, July 11 – August 30, 2011
TAXI DRIVER (July 1–7) helps kick off one of our summer film series, a centennial tribute to the essential film score composer, Bernard Herrmann. Scorsese’s classic was Herrmann’s final score, but he began in Golden Age Hollywood scoring such films as CITIZEN KANE, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD, and more. Herrmann also provided the iconic music for some of Alfred Hitchcock’s most memorable films including PSYCHO, NORTH BY NORTHWEST and VERTIGO – not to mention a ‘score’ that involves no actual music: the orchestrated bird calls of THE BIRDS. Also see our centennial tribute to Italian film composer Nino Rota, Thursdays in July and August!
