  • TROLL 2 Memories

    August 6th, 2010

crw_2723.jpgBest Worst Movie is playing somewhere in town… I’ve got great memories from our screening of Troll 2 with the original cast, right here at the Brattle back in July 2007! We had a great time eating green cake and watching what is indisputably the best worst movie, with special guests Michael Stephenson, George Hardy, Darren Ewing, and Jason Steadman on hand to help us celebrate.

Were you here? Check out some pics from the night’s festivities on the Brattle’s Flickr page!

Phoenix Podcast: Bret Easton Ellis at the Brattle

    August 2nd, 2010

If you couldn’t get a ticket to Harvard Book Store’s reading with Bret Easton Ellis at the Brattle on June 24, you’re in luck: Folks from The Boston Phoenix were on hand to record the talk, and they’ve just released a podcast on their ‘Phlog’ blog. Mr. Ellis is on tour in support of his latest novel, Imperial Bedrooms, which picks up 20+ years after the events in his 1985 book, Less Than Zero.

Your weekend reading – movie news

    July 30th, 2010

These stories have been passed around the Brattle office this week and I wanted to share them with you as well:

Maury Chakin at Brattle Theatre receiving an award from the Chlotrudis Society of Independent Film

Great interview with Bill Murray where he expounds upon the brilliance of Kung Fu Hustle

Piece from The Believer about Cambridge filmmakers Ilisa Barbash and Lucien Castaing-Taylor

Not sure how bad this news is for the film industry – the UK Film Council was shut down by their government this week

But I do know how bad this news is – Canadian character actor Maury Chaykin passed away this week on his 61st birthday

And we are excited about Toronto International Film Festival’s recent announcement of titles for this year’s festival line-up (This weekend’s film premiere, Valhalla Rising, was a title that Ned and I saw at Toronto last year and loved.)

I welcome your thoughts and reactions to any of these articles in the comments.

Sad news – Canadian actress Tracy Wright passes from pancreatic cancer

    June 24th, 2010

I just found out that Tracy Wright was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last week and today I am given this sad news! You may have seen her in person at the Brattle when she received an award from the Chlotrudis Society of Independent Film, along with husband Don McKellar, or you may have seen her in Monkey Warfare when it screened in the Independent Film Festival of Boston, or when we hosted the Boston premiere of the film at the Brattle. OR you may have seen her in the many other interesting performances she gave in Canadian and American indie films.

She was a wonderful talent, strong actress and a super cool chick. She will be dearly missed by all of us at the Brattle.

To read more about her, here is a great piece from The Globe and Mail: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/arts/actress-tracy-wright-was-true-to-her-craft-until-the-end/article1615092/

    LOST: The Finale 5/23/10

    June 1st, 2010

We had a great turnout for our Brattle member appreciation event, LOST: The Finale, a couple weeks back… We very much enjoyed sharing the last episode of our favorite show with everyone, even if we were all just a little disappointed the ending turned out the way it did.

See more pics from the event on the Brattle’s Flickr page!

Special thanks to our members, guests, staff, and volunteers for helping make this event fun & successful, and thanks to the Phoenix live bloggers for sharing the excitement!
