Trash Night: Class of 1999

Buy Tickets

We’re excited to welcome TRASH NIGHT, one of Boston’s best underground comedy/film events, to the Brattle starting in 2014! Once a month TRASH NIGHT selects one F-grade, sub-cult cinematic wonder and unleashes it on an unsuspecting audience – with original video weirdness seeded throughout. This is one of the rare times at the Brattle when audience participation is not only encouraged, it’s required!

CLASS OF 1999 (1990) Dir Mark L. Lester, w/Bradley Gregg, Traci Lind, Malcolm McDowell, Pam Grier [99 min; digital]
IN FUTURE DYSTOPIC SEATTLE, gang-choked high schools are barely a step above open-air prisons. In swoops the MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX to corral these no-good teens and solve everyone’s problems! CLASS OF 1999 posits: What if your high school science teacher was a decommissioned military cyborg, AND ALSO Pam Grier? She — well, she would try to murder you and your gang friends, duh.

Like THE WARRIORS? Like TERMINATOR? This will VAGUELY HEARKEN BACK to both SUPERIOR FILMS! Prepare for a PAUCITY OF NUANCE and a DEARTH OF SUBTLETY as CLASS OF 1999 serves up TURF WARS, NECK SNAPS AND CYBORG WARFARE!!!

As always, this is a TRASH NIGHT MOVIE, so you’re encouraged to heckle the movie with your best AD-HOC JOEL HODGSON quips and riffs. We’ll also interleave our signature HANDCRAFTED BIZARRO VIDEO EDITS into the film here and there, so when the film cuts to commercial, STICK AROUND! If you haven’t come to a Trash Night before, trust us: It is a DELIGHTFUL CHAOS.
