We’re excited to welcome TRASH NIGHT, one of Boston’s best underground comedy/film events, to the Brattle starting in 2014! Once a month TRASH NIGHT selects one F-grade, sub-cult cinematic wonder and unleashes it on an unsuspecting audience – with original video weirdness seeded throughout. This is one of the rare times at the Brattle when audience participation is not only encouraged, it’s required!

TRANCERS

(1985) Dir Charles Band, w/Tim Thomerson, Helen Hunt, Michael Stefani [76 min, digital]
In 2247, a PSYCHIC CRIMINAL who turns people into ZOMBIE SLAVES escapes into the MID-EIGHTIES by abusing an INTRAVENOUS TIME-TRAVEL DRUG. TIM THOMERSON plays JACK DETH, a cop who timeskips back to chase him, only to meet A YOUNG HELEN HUNT and a band called “THE BUTTHEADS.”

WE’RE BACK! IT’S TRASH NIGHT!

Come to the BRATTLE THEATER on NEXT TUESDAY, MAY 6TH — we’ll be screening there EVERY FIRST TUESDAY for the rest of the year. As usual, we’ll be splicing WEIRD IDIOT VIDEO ART into the film to keep everyone awake. (Shh: We’re also doing something secret this time around, so definitely show up!!)

“The mid-80s through mid-90s was a swell time to be a sci-fi fan with theatrical heavy hitters like THE TERMINATOR (1984), ALIENS (1986), ROBOCOP (1987), TOTAL RECALL, TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY (1991), and JURASSIC PARK (1993). But for every box office juggernaut there was a slew of titles that were produced and distributed exclusively for the home video market and Charles Band capitalized on that.” Justin LaLiberty writes about TRANCERS for Brattle Film Notes
