(1921) dir Chaplin w/Chaplin, Edna Purviance, Jackie Coogan [68 min; 35mm]
In the Little Tramp’s feature debut, he becomes the caretaker of an abandoned little boy that he discovers in the street and raises as his own. When the authorities discover that the boy is not his real son, however, the duo must go on the lam to stay together. Filled with the curious mix of hilarious physical comedy and sentimental heart-string-tugging that Chaplin excelled at, THE KID remains a delightful and moving film.
