We’re excited to welcome TRASH NIGHT, one of Boston’s best underground comedy/film events, to the Brattle starting in 2014! Once a month TRASH NIGHT selects one F-grade, sub-cult cinematic wonder and unleashes it on an unsuspecting audience – with original video weirdness seeded throughout. This is one of the rare times at the Brattle when audience participation is not only encouraged, it’s required!

(Mirai Ninja / 未来忍者, 1988) dir Keita Amemiya w/Hanbei Kawai, Hiroki Ida, Eri Morishita, Makoto Yokoyama [62 mins + short; Digital; in Japanese with English subtitles]
CYBER SUMMER comes to a THRILLING CLOSE this month with CYBER NINJA, a collaboration between prolific Japanese monster and character designer Keita Amemiya (KAMEN RIDER; ULTRAMAN USA; SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI IV*) and prolific video game company Namco (PAC-MAN; TEKKEN 2; KARNOV). CYBER NINJA was simultaneously released as THE FILM WE’LL SHOW TONIGHT, and as a NOT-VERY-FUN ARCADE CABINET which we will NOT BRING WITH US but which is in the COMPLETE MAME ROMSET. There are LAZERS and BIGGER LAZERS and TRANSFORMING HOUSES and A DELIGHTFUL AMOUNT OF POWER RANGERS-GRADE COMBAT.

FURTHERMORE, we’ll be pre-empting tonight’s festivities with A MYSTERY SHORT (since CYBER NINJA is something like 62 minutes long), AS WELL AS finally revealing the THRILLING SECRETS behind our ENIGMATIC, UNDEREXPLAINED BUTTON-DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM. And, of course, we’ll cram in some horrifying ORIGINAL VHS-SOURCED CULTUREJAMMING BRICOLAGE throughout the evening.

Excited? Intrigued? Hoping we’ll show some more robot afterbirth? HEAD TO THE BRATTLE THEATER this TUESDAY, AUGUST 5th!

Tickets are $7, at the door or in advance; price of entry includes INSCRUTABLE COMMEMORATIVE PIN. Doors open at 7 PM; show begins at 7:30. Concessions are available in the lobby and include beer, wine, soda, popcorn and snacks.
