20,000 DAYS ON EARTH is an inventive, lyrical ode to creativity and an intimate examination of the artistic process of musician and cultural icon Nick Cave. Directors Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard fuse drama and documentary for this remarkable film, weaving a staged day in Cave’s life with neverbefore-seen observations of his creative cycle. Voices from the past – including collaborator Warren Ellis, friend Ray Winstone, and pop diva Kylie Minogue – revisit Cave in daydream-like scenes as he sits behind the wheel driving through his adopted hometown of Brighton, England. Cave also visits an exaggerated version of his own archive as he delves into his personal and artistic past. Simultaneously, the film seems to push into the future as it examines the continued development of a single song from Cave’s most recent album, Push the Sky Away. 20,000 DAYS ON EARTH is a category-defying film that pushes the music documentary into new territory.

NYT Critics’ Pick “It is as intimate and honest a portrait of a rock artist’s creative roots as any film has attempted.” –Stephen Holden, New York Times

★★★★★ “The film conceals as much as it reveals, and its beauty is that it pretends to do nothing else. It embraces a mystery and protects it, and it’s thrilling to behold.” – Dave Calhoun, Time Out London

“What makes 20,000 Days on Earth distinctive is that it provides an overview of the man and his art while creating the illusion that this has come together organically — out of poetic ruminations, casual encounters, ghost-like visitations and good old Freudian psychoanalysis.” – David Rooney, The Hollywood Reporter

Critics’ Pick “20,000 Days on Earth is meticulously crafted but nonetheless feels casual and heartfelt. It’s revelatory, and wonderful, to watch Cave walking (or driving) around, being a real person — if the movie is somewhat staged, it’s never stagey.” – Stephanie Zacharek, Village Voice

★★★★☆ “A beguiling vision of a musician considering the meaning of his own art.” – Ed Frankl, CineVue
