(2013, Canada) Dir Dominic Gagnon [90 min, Digital]
HOAX_CANULAR is a found-footage film made entirely from YouTube videos of teenagers anticipating the end of the world. The videos act as a coping mechanism for kids imagining the tools and skills they will need to survive it, but leaves the rest of us wondering about fear, social media and how both share our understanding of the world around us.

“Dominic Gagnon’s film expands the boundaries of traditional documentary and lends new meaning to online sharing: we never know when the parody ends and things get serious.” – IFFRotterdam, 2014

Official Selection of the 2014 Visions du Reél, 2014 International Film Festival Rotterdam, 2013 Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM)

About The DocYard:

For decades, Boston has been a center for documentary filmmaking. It is a place where students come to learn and experiment, where some of documentary’s giants are teaching and creating new work, and where the craft is continuously nurtured and expanded. Today’s filmmakers are breaking new ground that has its foundation, more often than not, in Boston’s rich documentary legacy.

Celebrating what is innovative, interesting, and inspiring in documentary, The DocYard is a bi-weekly film and discussion series that takes place every other Monday. Their goal is to grow a vibrant, creative community for Boston’s filmmakers, film students and film lovers through each of these special events.
