PERDITA DURANGO features Rosie Perez as Perdita (a character created by the great neo-noir author Barry Gifford, who also appears in David Lynch’s WILD AT HEART) and Javier Bardem as the deliciously sadistic Romeo Dolorosa. Romeo is a self-styled Santeria guru who spends most of his time flitting from one anarchistic crime to another. When Perdita and Romeo hook up, all Hell breaks loose! The two passionate lovers undertake a mission to transport frozen embryos for use by the cosmetics industry and soon find themselves saddled with two gringo hostages as well as a cadre of unwelcome pursuers. This, the English-language debut of cult filmmaker Alex de la Iglesia, is a completely perverse, over-the-top love story.

It’s that time of the year again when people start buying candy and jewelry and putting up pictures of cherubs everywhere. As much as we love celebrating love, we feel that sometimes there’s too narrow a definition applied around Valentine’s Day. Here with the antidote is our latest REEL WEIRD BRATTLE late night series. From David Cronenberg’s transgressive masterpiece CRASH to the bizarre obsessions of THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES to the alternative affections of SECRETARY, we present a series of weird and wonderful films that are all, no matter how strangely, driven by passion.
