LOST RIVER is a dark fairy tale about love, family and the fight for survival in the face of danger. In the virtually abandoned city of Lost River, Billy (Hendricks), a single mother, is led into a macabre underworld in her quest to save her childhood home and hold her family together. Meanwhile, her teenage son Bones (De Caestecker) discovers a mystery about the origins of Lost River that launches him on an unexpected journey. An idiosyncratic film with a lushly surreal vision shot in the dilapidated neighborhoods of Detroit, LOST RIVER owes a debt to both David Lynch and Gosling’s recent collaborator Nicolas Winding Refn but it also shows that Gosling is, as the New York Times put it, “a filmmaker with a poetic sensibility of his own.”

“The movie owes a sizable debt to David Lynch and to Nicolas Winding Refn, who directed Mr. Gosling in ‘Drive’ and ‘Only God Forgives,’ but it reveals Mr. Gosling as a filmmaker with a poetic sensibility of his own.” – Ben Kenigsberg, New York Times

“At heart, ‘Lost River’ is a midnight movie for those ready to find it and go with the flow.” – Jordan Hoffman, New York Daily News

“Avowedly arty and rich to the point of bursting its seams.” – Kieron Tyler, The Arts Desk

Brattle passes accepted.

Dear Brattle Friends,

You guys continue to humble and amaze us with your outpouring of support!

Thanks to you, we have now raised more than $35,000 from over 400 individual donors!

Thank you for helping to keep our staff paid and The Brattle alive during this scary time.

I hope that you are all feeling healthy.

As we remain closed, our preliminary goal is to raise four weeks of operating support, or $65,000, to ensure we can continue to pay all of our staff, and other overhead through April 7. As things develop, our timeline for being closed and fundraising goal may change, but our ultimate goal of re-opening The Brattle stays firm.

With your help, this goal will become a reality.

Stay healthy,

Ivy, Ned & The Brattle Theatre Team
