Saturdays, Sept 19 – Oct 24, 2015
Our run of THE QUAY BROTHERS IN 35MM inspired us to delve deeper into the dark, late-night side of animation, and we want to take you along for the journey. We start off with Linklater’s trippy 2006 feature A SCANNER DARKLY, before moving on to legendary Czech animator Jan Svankmajer’s ALICE. We’ll stop along the way to consider Fritz the Cat director Joseph Kaufmann’s 1973 follow up feature HEAVY TRAFFIC, René Laloux’s surreal masterpiece FANTASTIC PLANET, and contemporary fave Don Hertzfeldt’s 2012 feature, IT’S SUCH A BEAUTIFUL DAY. We wrap up in late October with Mamoru Oshii’s highly acclaimed cyberpunk tale GHOST IN THE SHELL. Join us Saturdays at 11:30 for this exciting survey of really weird animation!
