Special Audience Poll Screening! METROPOLIS

Special Brattle Film Foundation 15th Anniversary Event!

(1927) dir Fritz Lang w/Alfred Abel, Gustav Fröhlich, Rudolf Klein-Rogge, Brigitte Helm [120 min; 35mm]
In addition to premiering new independent and international films, the Brattle Film Foundation has been proud to continue the tradition of highlighting the best work from the entire history of film, including many restored reissues of classics from around the world.

In the summer of 2002 we were thrilled to host the Boston area premiere of the “Restored Authorized Edition” of Fritz Lang’s legendary METROPOLIS. Prior to the discovery of previously lost footage in 2008, this restoration was considered the most complete version possible of this legendary film. This edition includes the film’s original music score and title cards that describe the events featured in missing sequences.

This version of METROPOLIS was chosen in our audience poll as the title to screen during our special anniversary events. Since it is not the current ‘fully restored’ version, this is an extremely rare opportunity to see this version on screen – and we’ll be showing on 35mm film no less!

This event is free and open to the public.

The Brattle Film Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit, supported in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. Classic film programming is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, and by the Cabot Family Charitable Trust.
