BODY HEAT

Double Feature with THE LAST SEDUCTION

Shows in place of BLACK WIDOW.

(1981) dir Lawrence Kasdan w/William Hurt, Kathleen Turner, Richard Crenna, Ted Danson, Mickey Rourke [113 min; 35mm]
With its amped-up sexuality and disabled moral compass, BODY HEAT is arguably the film that launched the 80s/90s neo-noir craze. This is thanks in large part to the smoldering screen debut of Kathleen Turner as a woman who manipulates an incompetent lawyer (Hurt) into a complicated murder scheme against her rich husband.

“While Body Heat involves murder, fraud, a weak hero led astray and a seductive, double-dealing broad, it also incorporates something new: a sexual explicitness that the old films could only hint at.” – Janet Maslin, New York Times (8/28/1981)

“In 1981 Lawrence Kasdan was in the dream spot for a Hollywood screenwriter … BODY HEAT was his first effort at directing one of his own scripts, and it is a taut, gripping Noir thriller in the classic style, updated for the ‘modern’ sensibility.” Eric Shoag writes about BODY HEAT for Brattle Film Notes

Dear Brattle Friends,

You guys continue to humble and amaze us with your outpouring of support!

Thanks to you, we have now raised more than $35,000 from over 400 individual donors!

Thank you for helping to keep our staff paid and The Brattle alive during this scary time.

I hope that you are all feeling healthy.

As we remain closed, our preliminary goal is to raise four weeks of operating support, or $65,000, to ensure we can continue to pay all of our staff, and other overhead through April 7. As things develop, our timeline for being closed and fundraising goal may change, but our ultimate goal of re-opening The Brattle stays firm.

With your help, this goal will become a reality.

Stay healthy,

Ivy, Ned & The Brattle Theatre Team
