A TOUCH OF ZEN

New Digital Restoration!

(1971) dir King Hu w/Feng Hsu, Chun Shih, Ying Bai [187 min; DCP]
In King Hu’s grandest work, Yang (Hsu Feng), a fugitive noblewoman at risk of being captured and executed, hides in a small village and then must escape into the wilderness with a shy scholar and two aides. There, the quartet face a massive group of fighters and are joined by a band of Buddhist monks surprisingly skilled in the art of battle. Both of these thrilling landmarks of film history return to the screen in new, beautifully restored 4K digital transfers, created from the original negatives.

“The visual style will set your eyes on fire.” – Tony Rayns, Time Out

“Looking as fresh as if it was made yesterday, rather than three decades ago, A Touch Of Zen is Eastern cinema at its most dynamic and grown-up.” – Total Film

“All the lunacy and high-flown imagination you could hope for.” – Empire Magazine
