(1964) dir Don Siegel w/Lee Marvin, Clu Gulager, Angie Dickinson, John Cassavetes, Claude Akins, Norman Fell, Ronald Reagan [93 min; DCP]
With an early score by John Williams, THE KILLERS is a sleazy thriller about a couple of hit men (Marvin and Gulager) who just can’t believe how easy it was to off their latest victim (Cassavetes) so they start digging into his past and uncover a sordid tale involving a gangster (future president Ronald Reagan) and his moll (Dickinson). Much like Robert Altman’s The Long Goodbye, THE KILLERS highlights Williams’ versatility in scoring not only orchestral music but also jazz and pop.
