The Technoskeptic Presents
Discussion to Follow
(2002) dir Steven Spielberg w/Tom Cruise, Samantha Morton, Colin Farrell, Neal McDonough, Max von Sydow [145 min; 35mm]
With this screening, we launch a new ongoing screening series in collaboration with The Technoskeptic, a magazine exploring the intersection of technology and society from a humanistic perspective. To kick off we screen Steven Spielberg’s insightful and thrilling take on Philip K. Dick’s prescient short story about a future detective accused of a crime that he has yet to commit.
Featuring a discussion between Mo Lotman, founder of The Technoskeptic, and Alex Marthews, National Chair of Restore the Fourth, a privacy advocacy group, about predictive policing and other topics raised by the film.
“This is the kind of pure entertainment that, in its fullness and generosity, feels almost classic.” – Mick Lasalle, San Francisco Chronicle
“This film is such a virtuoso high-wire act, daring so much, achieving it with such grace and skill. Minority Report reminds us why we go to the movies in the first place.” – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
