(1962) dir Robert Wise w/Mitchum, Shirley MacLaine [119 min; 35mm]
A cross-generational romance ensues when recently separated Nebraskan Jerry (Mitchum) meets free-spirited dancer Gittel (MacLaine) in the Big Apple. The two begin a sometimes-stormy relationship that, ultimately, teaches them both more about themselves. The chemistry between Mitchum and MacLaine is genuine – the two started an affair during the filming that lasted until Mitchum’s death.
