Special 35mm Screening!

Benefit for Disaster Relief

(2011) dir Terrence Malick w/Sean Penn, Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain, Hunter McCracken, Laramie Eppler [139 min; DCP]
Shot largely in the Southeast Texas region devastated by Hurricane Harvey over the summer, Terrence Malick’s TREE OF LIFE is a remarkable internal epic – a coming of age film like no other. Reflecting on his childhood, an architect (Penn) has visions of the distant past and the far future, as well as his own life as a child in suburban Texas. Note: Due to a shipping issue, TREE OF LIFE will screen on DCP, not 35mm as originally announced. We regret any inconvenience.

50% of each ticket sold will be donated to disaster relief for the victims of Harvey and Irene as well as the wildfires plaguing the American west.

“With disarming sincerity and daunting formal sophistication ‘The Tree of Life’ ponders some of the hardest and most persistent questions, the kind that leave adults speechless when children ask them.” – A. O. Scott, New York Times

“A beautiful, messy film: at times lyrical, intimate, and uplifting; at others, vast, inscrutable, and maddening.” – Christopher Orr, The Atlantic

“Here’s a testament to this reclusive, stubborn, visionary director’s stunning achievement: His films can change the way you look at the world by showing you how another person sees it.” – Dana Stevens, Slate
