(2001) dir DeMane Davis, Khari Streeter w/Kerry Washington, Lonette McKee, Eugene Byrd, Barbara Montgomery, Sticky Fingaz [85 min; 35mm]
Just at the dawn of her career, Scandal’s Kerry Washington plays a professional shoplifter – or ‘booster’ – who finds more fulfilment in a life of crime than with her dysfunctional family. Shot entirely in Boston, mostly in Roxbury and on Newbury Street, LIFT is a great crime drama/character study with echoes of Bresson’s Pickpocket.

“A wonderfully acted, finely-crafted project that deserves our attention.” – Christopher Varney, Film Threat

“Lift teems with life.” – Elvis Mitchell, New York Times
