STAFF PICKWe’re back with staff picks for the early spring schedule – check out the complete list after the jump…

  • EX MACHINA – It’s like an episode of Black Mirror, except darker, and also Oscar Isaac does a dance.
  • EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT – The first film to be shot on location in the Amazon in 30 years, this trippy, gorgeous movie has been on my list for a while. Can’t wait to see it on the big screen.
  • WHALE RIDER – I was so happy to see Keisha Castle-Hughes pop up in Game of Thrones, and it made me nostalgic for this beautiful little film.
  • THE SECRET GARDEN – Because Maggie Smith forever and ever until the end of time. Amen. It’s also worth noting that the garden for this movie was built from scratch…it really does the book justice.

Alissa Darsa is the Brattle’s Development Associate.

  • HAVE A NICE DAY – an animation style I could get lost in.
  • THE WATERMELON WOMAN – In this movie, Dunye celebrates and continues the legacy of black queer women in cinema. It’s been on my list forever and I’m so glad to have a chance to see it on the big screen!
  • THE FITS – This movie really stayed with me after we screened it last year. Its dreamlike images capture early adolescence and tomboyhood in hauntingly beautiful ways.
  • OFF THE RAILS – Often, my favorite movie on a Brattle schedule ends up being something I’d never seen and never heard of. Based on the description alone, this might be that movie.

Alma Macbride is a member of the Brattle concessions staff.

Kim Baillargeon is the Brattle’s Operations Manager.

Yangqiao Lu is the Brattle’s Associate Director.
