“What if Say Anything were set inside Groundhog Day, and it was about a New Wave vampire?” This question was asked by writer-director Luca Bercovici, fulfilled by cross-disciplinary new wavers, and produced by Cannon Films’ Yoram Globus, and DID WE MENTION that it is also a MUSICAL called ROCKULA.

ROCKULA is a love story between Ralph, an anxious teenage vampire, and Mona, a freestyle singer who’s the reincarnation of Ralph’s girlfriend from the 1600s. Every 22 years, as Ralph bemoans, his Renaissance-era fiancee is born anew, grows up, and is killed on Halloween night by a reincarnation of the jealous pirate captain who originally killed her all those years ago. By 1990, Ralph has had enough, and is determined to wait things out in his room and spare this poor woman the headache.

TONI BASIL plays Ralph’s vampire MILF! THOMAS DOLBY plays Mona’s manager and erstwhile novelty coffin salesman! BO DIDDLEY plays Ralph’s friend and lead guitarist and ALSO, at one point does a little butt dance in a bee costume! SUSAN TYRRELL bartends and plays the bongos! The two leads are basically nobodies! IT MIGHT BE A PERFECT MOVIE!

TRASH NIGHTWe’re excited to welcome TRASH NIGHT, one of Boston’s best underground comedy/film events, to the Brattle! Once a month TRASH NIGHT selects one F-grade, sub-cult cinematic wonder and unleashes it on an unsuspecting audience – with original video weirdness seeded throughout. This is one of the rare times at the Brattle when audience participation is not only encouraged, it’s required!
