LITTLE MARINES 2 is so incompetently-made as to be mildly hallucinatory.

It’s a “summer camp” bildungsroman-for-teens, kinda in the vein of MEATBALLS, sorta with a STAND BY ME bent to it, maybe with dash of BMX-racing classic RAD? But, like, as written by a conservative Christian mom intent on capturing the idyll of rural Arkansas. And as filmed on camcorder in the woods of Arkansas. And as staged and paced by amateurs and acted by first-timers. And when she had trouble blocking out her script, she asked an alien for help.

Here’s the gist: Five rural tweens are obsessed with their local bike decathalon and are determined to win. However, two major events rock their summer: They’re required by decathalon mandate to include a girl on their team, and their rivals, the arrogant Eagles, send them a threatening VHS tape, containing boasts and veiled threats. As the six of them train to beat their all-state rivals, the film vacillates between comedy, drama, and backyard sports action, all while a BOOKIE and his FIXERS attempt to ruin the Hawks’ chances.

There are goats. There are mudbaths. There’s an outhouse rolling. There’s a BAFFLINGLY LONG MONTAGE of a ROPE SWING. I know I mentioned this one already but there’s BETTING on a CHILDREN’S BICYCLE RACE to the EXTENT that a BOOKIE IS INVOLVED. If it’s been awhile since you’ve sat up in your seat and screamed “IS THIS REAL??!? AM I DREAMING??????” at something, you should probably come on Tuesday, that’s all I’m saying.

TRASH NIGHTWe’re excited to welcome TRASH NIGHT, one of Boston’s best underground comedy/film events, to the Brattle! Once a month TRASH NIGHT selects one F-grade, sub-cult cinematic wonder and unleashes it on an unsuspecting audience – with original video weirdness seeded throughout. This is one of the rare times at the Brattle when audience participation is not only encouraged, it’s required!
