Premiere Engagement!
Director in Person Monday July 30th!

Friday, July 27 – Monday, July 30

Director Jim McKay will join us in person for Q+A following the 8:30 screening on Monday, July 30th

(2018) dir Jim McKay w/Fernando Cardona, Gilberto Jimenez, Abel Perez [92 min; DCP]
Acclaimed director Jim McKay’s (Our Song, GIRLS TOWN) first feature in over a decade is this timely, compassionate, often humorous look at life in New York as an undocumented Mexican immigrant. José works long hours doing bicycle deliveries for a restaurant in Carroll Gardens and then spends his day off on the soccer fields of Sunset Park. When his team makes it to the championship, he and his teammates are thrilled. But José’s boss throws a wrench into the celebration when he tells him he has to work on Sunday, the day of the finals. Knowing he’ll be fired if he doesn’t show up for work, José is forced to choose between his job and his loyalty to the team. Shot on the streets of Brooklyn, EN EL SÉPTIMO DÍA vividly captures the struggles and camaraderie that binds this community together in a universally relevant story of fortitude and dignity. – BAM Rose Cinemas

“Confident and captivating… the movie has a bone-deep humanity that transcends technique and reaches right back to Cassavetes.” – Owen Gleiberman, Variety

“McKay captures a genuine sense of the bittersweet reality of the American dream and the people who give up their only weekly day of rest just to keep it alive.” – Monica Castillo, Village Voice
