Double Feature with THE AMERICAN FRIEND (4:00, 9:30)

(1984) dir Wim Wenders w/Harry Dean Stanton, Hunter Carson, Dean Stockwell, Nastassja Kinski [147 min; DCP]
Perhaps the apex of the collaboration between Müller and Wenders, PARIS, TEXAS features gorgeous wide-open vistas punctuated by bursts of brilliant neon. In this “story of America,” Stanton plays a man who walks out of the desert seemingly having lost his memories and his voice. As he slowly regains both, he is reunited with the son he left years earlier and the two go on an elegiac search for the boy’s mother.

Staff Pick: Kim, Cardinal, Jessie
Cardinal – been on my list for years, and I finally saw at the Brattle last year – a punch in the tearducts, eventually.

“A defiantly individual film… It is true, deep, and brilliant.” – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
