Special Screening and Book Signing!

Author Karina Longworth in Person!

(1933) dir Victor Fleming w/Jean Harlow, Lee Tracy, Frank Morgan, Franchot Tone, Pat O’Brien, Una Merkel [96 min; 35mm]
In BOMBSHELL, sexpot movie star Jean Harlow plays sexpot movie star Lola Burns who is desperate to escape the salacious image that her jealous publicist has built for her. A terrific pre-code comedy with the hotter than hot Harlow in one of her signature roles.

KARINA LONGWORTH is the creator and host of one of our favorite film-centric podcasts, You Must Remember This, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the Brattle for this special screening. In her brand-new book SEDUCTION: SEX, LIES, AND STARDOM IN HOWARD HUGHES’S HOLLYWOOD, Longworth probes the inner workings of Hollywood’s glamorous golden age through the stories of some of the dozens of actresses pursued by Howard Hughes, to reveal how the millionaire mogul’s obsessions with sex, power and publicity trapped, abused, or benefitted women who dreamt of screen stardom. Vivid, perceptive, timely, and ridiculously entertaining, SEDUCTION is a landmark work that examines women, sex, and male power in Hollywood during its golden age – a legacy that endures nearly a century later.

Longworth will introduce the film with a special presentation and be on hand to sign copies of her book afterwards.

Copies of SEDUCTION: SEX, LIES, AND STARDOM IN HOWARD HUGHES’S HOLLYWOOD will be for sale at the event courtesy of Harvard Book Store.
