Double Feature with HEREDITARY

2018 • dir Luca Guadagnino w/Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, Lutz Ebersdorf, Angela Winkler, Mia Goth, Elena Fokina, Sylvie Testud, Ingrid Caven • 152 min; • DCP

This stunning, bloody, horrific, and divisive reimagining of one of the most revered horror films of all time is neither entirely a remake nor a reboot. Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name) has treated the 1977 source material as something akin to a modern fairy tale – similar story structure and characters are present, but the two films differ in surprising and important ways. Plus, a trick of casting that verges on practical joke, makes this an almost entirely female cast.

Staff Pick: Cardinal, Jo – I haven’t seen it, but but it inspired a friend to get back to dancing, so it’s probably good.

“A dark fantasy shimmering with the dusty luster of the past…Suspiria holds a whispered decree: believe women. But also: don’t underestimate them.” – Natalia Winkleman, The Daily Beast

“Luca Guadagnino’s remake of Dario Argento’s 1977 cult fave is so utterly nuts I had to love it. Densely atmospheric. Thom Yorke’s music a big plus.” – James Verniere, Boston Herald

“A beautiful, resonant feminist fairy tale at least half grounded in German postwar realities.” – Anton Bitel, Little White Lies

“Guadagnino… delves into the moodiness of the horror genre with bloody aplomb.” – Tom Meek, Cambridge Day

Dear Brattle Friends,

You guys continue to humble and amaze us with your outpouring of support!

Thanks to you, we have now raised more than $35,000 from over 400 individual donors!

Thank you for helping to keep our staff paid and The Brattle alive during this scary time.

I hope that you are all feeling healthy.

As we remain closed, our preliminary goal is to raise four weeks of operating support, or $65,000, to ensure we can continue to pay all of our staff, and other overhead through April 7. As things develop, our timeline for being closed and fundraising goal may change, but our ultimate goal of re-opening The Brattle stays firm.

With your help, this goal will become a reality.

Stay healthy,

Ivy, Ned & The Brattle Theatre Team
