2018 • dir Nicolas Pesce w/Christopher Abbott, Mia Wasikowska, Laia Costa • 81 min • DCP

Adapted from the novel by cult Japanese novelist Ryu Murakami (Audition), this new film from the acclaimed director of The Eyes of My Mother, features Christopher Abbot as Reed, a man who sets out one evening to murder a prostitute in an effort to quell his desire to stab his young family with an icepick. Despite the fact that he has planned everything out minutely, he gets more than he bargained for when equally damaged Jackie (Wasikowska) shows up as his ‘date.’ A lean, twisting, kinky black comedy with a wonderfully unique aesthetic that sets it in an alternate reality which may or may not be all in the protagonists’ heads.

“In a movie where everyone’s crazy, Piercing makes their malady infectious.” – Eric Kohn, Indiewire

“Piercing is a dark comedy pleasure spiked with pain. A sick and stylish love letter to giallo films of the ’70s, Nicolas Pesce delivers cinematic kink at its finest.” – Marisa Mirabal, Slashfilm

“Piercing is a propulsive, intricately crafted thriller that plays like the twisted lovechild of American Psycho and Phantom Thread. Slick and sick, sometimes sexy, and surprisingly sweet.” – Haleigh Foutch, Collider

“Nicolas Pesce has both a bright future and a serious need to see a strict Freudian psychiatrist.” – James Verniere, Boston Herald

“A wild psychosexual thriller rife with S&M depravity and bloody parlor games.” – Tom Meek, Cambridge Day
