Bad Black

Followed by Livestream Q+A with Director Nabwana Isaac Godfrey Geoffrey (IGG) and Producer/Star Alan Ssali Hofmanis!

2016 • dir Nabwana Isaac Godfrey Geoffrey (IGG) • 68 min • DCP

Welcome to Wakaliwood, Uganda: home of “DA BEST OF DA BEST MOVIES!” and the vanguards of DIY commando cinema. Under the guidance of writer/producer/director Nabwana Isaac Godfrey Geoffrey (IGG) and with producer/star Alan Ssali Hofmanis, this crack crew of self-taught filmmakers and martial arts aficionados produce dozens of gonzo action films in the Kampala ghetto with budgets that rarely exceed $200. Utilizing scrap parts to build computers, machine guns and a full-sized Huey helicopter, these real-life superheroes inspire more heart, imagination and soul than a thousand Hollywood blockbusters.

Staff Pick! Joey, Brandon

“A deliriously entertaining multi-genre mashup… Guaranteed to thrill midnight-movie geeks and well worth the attention of cineastes and film scholars.”
– Richard Kuipers, Variety

“Bad Black is like a shot of pure adrenaline jabbed straight into your heart.”
– Matt Singer, Screen Crush

Dear Brattle Friends,

You guys continue to humble and amaze us with your outpouring of support!

Thanks to you, we have now raised more than $35,000 from over 400 individual donors!

Thank you for helping to keep our staff paid and The Brattle alive during this scary time.

I hope that you are all feeling healthy.

As we remain closed, our preliminary goal is to raise four weeks of operating support, or $65,000, to ensure we can continue to pay all of our staff, and other overhead through April 7. As things develop, our timeline for being closed and fundraising goal may change, but our ultimate goal of re-opening The Brattle stays firm.

With your help, this goal will become a reality.

Stay healthy,

Ivy, Ned & The Brattle Theatre Team
