SPECIAL SCREENING!

BIOGRAPHER TOM STURGES IN PERSON

1941 • dir Preston Sturges w/Joel McCrea, Veronica Lake, Robert Warwick • 90 min • 35mm

We’re excited to welcome acclaimed author, Tom Sturges to the Brattle to discuss his latest work. Sturges is the youngest son of the great Hollywood writer/director Preston Sturges and so he brings a unique insight to his latest book, Preston Sturges: The Last Years of Hollywood’s First Writer-Director. We’re also thrilled to present one of Sturges’ most beloved and highly regarded films as part of this program. SULLIVAN’S TRAVELS follows a famous director of popular comedy films (McCrea) who sheds comfort and riches on a quest to discover the real America – and runs across gorgeous and resourceful Veronica Lake in the process.

Staff Pick! Kim, Joey: “Funny, heartwarming and dramatic. The things Sturges has to say about cinema still ring true.”
